Brian St.Germain 7thESB' 1st Bulk Fuel Company aboard Camp Pendleton. SEMPER FIDELIS, and THANK YOU for your ultimate sacrifice!" Thank you Doc AVas soon as i get 9x19 & 9x23 i will have it checkedMG Mike thank you for your commentthis pistol has matching barrel stamped (6817)probably its still 9x23 but we will see."Remembering you today and everyday. BTW, a 9x19 will fit into a 9x23 chamber, and MAY even fire (often does not, as the FP blow simply forces the case forward.) If the case is forced forward, and then does NOT fire, you have a live, partially sensitized primed load in place.you have to dismantle the barrel and remove cartridge (with lots of care!!!).Good find, anyway.Regards,Doc AVAV Ballistics.

If it doesn't, then try a 9x19, and see what happens. Germany did buy some M12s late in WW I, chambered for 9x19 from the outset.(Rare) THis is NOT a German Contract model.Best to check chambering.if a 9x23 Steyr cartridge fits and action closes, then it is 9x23 Steyr. 1966 is German proofing for Commercial sale (ie, Milsurp).Barrels would have been 'rechambered' to 9x19 ( Steyr M12 is 9x23) eiother by sleeving chamber or by barrel replacement (Most probably sleeving).Original proofing (acceptance) is Wien 1915, ( Vienna) and at that time it was in 9x23 Steyr.
